The "woof" factor

" There can be only one of us in d house..
   its either me or a dog !!! "

funny comparison no doubt.. but this statement from my mom was extremely effective in squashing my dreams of having a pet !!!
slowly over the years.. it became the patent dialogue of my mother..
( I was persistent u see.. didn't give up that easily..) ;)

I had dreamed of having pets since what seems like forever...
Kept bringing stray puppies at home.. much to the horror of my mom...!!!
She gave me a variety of reasons of course..

"Its unethical.. how would u feel if somebody took u away from me ??"

"Its not practically possible for us to keep a dog beta, its a huge responsibility"

"Its against jainism beta, we can't curb the free will of any jeev"

..

n d list went on like this..
i would be like "seriously" ??!!! :o
i gave various counter arguments..
spent hours trying to convince mom..
and it became a recurring topic at dining table discussions..


 finally my mom gave in..


No.. she didn't get me a pet..
but she agreed I'd get one eventually..
wen we shift to sumplace where I wont have to worry about 3 flight of stairs every tym i want to take the dog for a walk..
( I made her write this on paper.. along with her signature.. didn't want to leave behind any loopholes in case she changed her mind) ;)

Let me clarify something here.. it wasn't like she hated dogs.. or was afraid of them..
In fact d reason behind her not letting me have pets still remains a mystery... ;)

That was our plan.. but destiny had other plans for us..
On my 20th b'day my friends brought angel home.. As my b'day gift..

minuscule thing she was.. fit perfectly in the palm of my hands.. so tiny..

I'd always envisioned myself with a german shephard or a lab.. or most recently a golden retriever..
athletic breeds with whom i'd go on long walks with..
instead a baby pom came into my life..
who preffered to jump into my lap to take her nap..
who went into various nooks n corners of the house.. (thus earning her the title of "khopcha queen" )

who fell asleep on my books..

its truly a sight that'll melt the hardest of hearts..

And i can't be happier !!!

what was my mom's reaction u ask..???
when she came home.. she didn't even see her sitting on the chair.. half dozing actually..
it helped that my friends stood in front of the chair partially hiding her from view..
u see.. they too were terrified of  mum's reaction !!!

I went like.. "mom.. there is somebody i'd like u to meet !!!"
The expressions on her face .. hahaha..
they turned form curiosity.. to surprise.. and to shock in a matter of seconds !!!

It was my dad who was the first to verbalize this opinions.. n his first words were..
"kitne dino k liye ??"
he thought it was just for the matter of a few days.. a week at most !!!  lol !!! :D

Its funny how such a small thing managed to create such a large space for herself in all our hearts in such a short span of time !!!

As of today.. the's the 'jaan' of my parents..
on coming home she gives an exuberant welcome.. she's actually a small package bursting with energy..
wagging her tail to n fro so fast that it makes ur head dizzy watching !!!
my mom goes " ha mera baccha !!! " .. showering her affection over her...
while i wait patiently..
its only after a solid five minutes that she notices me standing in d background n says "hi beta" .. ;)

me ?? I cant be any happier.. :)
I got my lifelong wish fulfilled afterall... :)
and I recommend this to everyone.. Its a feeling which truly can't be described in words... :)
